Which rate to use
Blue if you are changing cash at a cueva or want to know what your dollars are worth "on the street". Official for bank purchases. MEP if you are dollarising through the stock market, or if you are a visitor paying by foreign card in Argentina (cards settle near the MEP). Card for Argentine cards used abroad. Crypto if you trade USDT.
Buy or sell
Converting dollars into pesos means you are selling dollars, so you receive the buy rate (ARS 1,520 today at the blue). Converting pesos into dollars means you are buying, at the sell rate (ARS 1,540). The calculator applies the right one for each direction; the difference between the two is the dealer's margin.
